‘Olfactory coding mechanisms in a novel olfactory subsystem of the mouse main olfactory epithelium’

The project is funded within the DFG priority program 1392 "Integrative Analysis of Olfaction". The studies include high-resolution confocal calcium imaging and patch clamp recording in genetically altered olfactory sensory neurons of the mouse to understand coding and signaling mechanisms in a novel olfactory subsystem. The project is in close collaboration with Peter Mombaerts' lab (http://www.mpibp-frankfurt.mpg.de) at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysics in Frankfurt, and PhD students in both labs are expected to closely interact. The PhD student based in Homburg will have her/his main focus on state-of-the-art imaging methods. Previous experience in live-cell imaging or electrophysiology is required.
